The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies

The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies is the technical and administrative body tasked with the implementation of the Government's mining policy.In this respect and in collaboration with the various relevant departments, it has the initiative and responsibility for the following actions:

  • Security of hydrocarbons supply in Ivory Coast, mineral substances and energy;
  • Rational and sustainable use of energy and mineral resources;
  • Promotion, guidance, regulation, coordination and control of research activities, extraction and production of minerals, crude oil, natural gas and other hydrocarbons;
  • Development of minerals and hydrocarbons processing into semi-finished products;
  • Standards and specifications management for petroleum products, product quality control and fight against fraud;
  • Implementation of a legal and institutional framework to enhance the competitiveness and competition with a view to developing the mining, oil and energy sectors;
  • Regulation and control of stock piling and management for petroleum products security stocks;
  • Collection and distribution of scientific and technical documentation relating to the mining, oil and energy sectors in Ivory Coast as well as in the rest of the world
  • Implementation and monitoring of a nation-wide electricity coverage program;
  • Intensification of implementation and monitoring actions of conventional or non-conventional energy programs, in favour of rural areas in collaboration with the Minister of Agriculture;
  • Regulation, control and guidance of production , transport and distribution of conventional energy sources as well as new and renewable energy sources;
  • Development of human resources in the mining, oil and energy sectors;
  • Implementation and monitoring of the Government’s policy with respect to energy saving and promotion of renewable energy in collaboration with the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Water and Forests;
  • Increased awareness program related to the use of gas as a domestic energy source;
  • Promotion of an energy saving policy at national level, notably in the public services;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of conventions in the mining, oil and energy sector.
