The Ministry of Water and Forests

The missions of the Ministry of Water and Forests are as follows:

The Minister of Water and Forests is responsible for the implementation and the monitoring of the Government’s policy regarding Water and Forests protection.
As such, and in collaboration with the various other involved ministerial departments, it has the initiative and is responsible for the following actions:

  1. Sustainability management of forests, flora and fauna
    • Promoting sustainable forest resources operating conditions
    • Definition and implementation of the national reforestation programme
    • Encouragement of forests development by public bodies and private sector
    • Forestry monitoring
    • Monitoring of training and marketing of wood products in collaboration with the Economy and Finance Minister
    • Game resources management
    • Implementation of national policies for the sustainable management of wildlife and its rational exploitation in collaboration with the Minister of Environment


  2. Sustainable management and water protection
    • Implement the Water Code in collaboration with the Minister in charge of economic infrastructure, the Minister of environment, the Minister of agriculture, the Minister of health and the Minister of Livestock and Fishery resources


  3. Protection of fauna and flora
    • Preserving the integrity of the state-owned forests
    • Fight against bush fires and protect the forests in collaboration with the Ministers of Defence and Agriculture
    • Implementation of conventions and treaties with regard to the protection of fauna and flora
    • Protect soils and water in collaboration with the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Livestock and Fishery Resources


  4. Development plan
    • Development of botanical gardens and zoos in collaboration with the decentralized authorities
